Maldives Masters Make History

The Maldives Masters Athletics Team delivered one of its finest international performances at the 38th Malaysian International Masters Athletics Championship 2026, winning numerous medals across track and field events and showcasing the growing strength of masters athletics in the country.

The championship, held from 5 to 7 June in Malaysia, saw Maldivian athletes compete against some of the region's best masters competitors, producing outstanding results throughout the competition.

Ahmed Abdul Azeez (Kavin) was among the top performers, winning gold medals in the men's 40-44 age group 100m and 200m events while claiming silver in the 400m. He also helped Maldives secure gold in the Mixed Medley Relay and silver medal in the 4x400m Relay.

Ali Ahmed (Ayya) continued his dominance in the men's 65 and above category by winning gold in the 1500m and silver medals in the 400m, 800m and 3000m events.

Fathimath Shamha enjoyed a successful championship in the women's 45-49 age group, winning gold medals in the 1500m and 2000m events, bronze in the 800m and a gold medal in the Mixed Medley Relay and bronze in the 4x400m Relay.

Hassan Shamoon achieved the biggest international success of his career by winning gold in the men's 40-44 javelin throw, silver in the shot put and bronze in the discus throw.

Husna Mohamed (Husy) produced another remarkable performance, claiming gold medals in the women's 45-49 age group 200m and 400m events, silver medals in the 100m and 800m events, and a gold medal in the Mixed Medley Relay and bronze in the 4x400m Relay.

Hussain Ahmed added a bronze medal in the men's 40-44 long jump event and silver medal in the 4x400m Relay.

Ibrahim Farish secured bronze in the men's 35-39 age group 200m event and finished fourth in the 100m and silver medal in the 4x400m Relay.

Former Olympian Mohamed Amir added another major achievement to his illustrious career by winning gold in the men's 55-59 age group 100m and 200m event while finishing fourth in the 4×100 Relay event.

Mohamed Rasheed (Mode) was one of the championship's standout athletes, winning gold in the men's 35-39 age group 1500m event, silver medals in the 400m, 800m and 3000m events, and gold in the Mixed Medley Relay and silver medal in the 4x400m Relay.

Moomina Mohamed (Moon) claimed gold in the women's 60-64 age group 1500m event, silver medals in the 200m and 2000m events, and bronze in the 800m and bronze in the 4x400m Relay.

Nafiza Ahmed (Nafy) won silver in the women's 55-59 age group 400m and 1500m races. and bronze medals in the 200m and 2000m races and bronze the 4x400m Relay.

The Malaysian championship will be remembered as a landmark event for Maldivian masters athletics, with athletes proudly raising the national flag and bringing home an impressive collection of medals from one of the region's leading masters competitions.
