The 14th edition of the Resort League got underway on Monday at Angsana Velavaru, with defending champions Angsana Velavaru being held to a 1-1 draw by Baglioni Maldives in the opening match of the Dhaalu Zone competition.

Entering the tournament as the champions of the last two editions, Velavaru began their title defence in front of their home crowd, but Baglioni Maldives produced a determined performance to earn a valuable point.

After a closely contested first half ended goalless, Angsana Velavaru broke the deadlock in the 26th minute of the second half through Mohamed Shaah, giving the hosts a 1-0 advantage and putting them on course for an opening victory.

However, Baglioni Maldives refused to give up and found a dramatic equaliser deep into stoppage time. Mohamed Raisan struck in 40+1 minute of the second half to rescue a point for Baglioni and silence the home supporters.

The draw means both teams begin their campaign with one point, leaving the race for the Dhaalu Zone title wide open as the tournament continues.
