The Health Protection Agency has confirmed two measles cases in the Malé area this week.
In a statement, the HPA said investigations are currently underway, including contact tracing and vaccination of identified contacts linked to the cases.
With the latest cases, a total of five measles infections have been reported in the Maldives so far this year. According to the HPA, two of the previously reported cases were imported from overseas.
Health authorities noted that the disease is currently spreading in several countries globally and within the region.
The HPA has also advised the public to seek immediate medical attention if symptoms such as cough and red skin rashes begin to develop.
