PNC Moves No Confidence Motion Against Parliament Vice Speaker Nazim

The ruling People's National Congress has decided to submit a no confidence motion against Parliament Vice Speaker Ahmed Nazim, according to reliable sources.

Sources confirmed that the PNC parliamentary group formally approved the decision during a meeting held today, with the motion reportedly passed by majority support among members present.

The motion has already secured the required number of signatures and is expected to be submitted to Parliament either today or tomorrow.

The reason behind the move against Nazim has not yet been officially disclosed. However, sources indicate that Nazim has also offered to resign from the post voluntarily, though this has not been formally confirmed by the party.

Under parliamentary rules, the Speaker or Vice Speaker can be removed through a resolution signed by at least one fourth of Parliament members, equivalent to a minimum of 24 MPs. The motion is then decided by a majority vote of members present during the parliamentary sitting.

The Maldives Parliament currently consists of 93 members, including 76 MPs from the PNC.

The development comes amid reports that Nazim was removed earlier today from a WhatsApp group reportedly used by President Mohamed Muizzu to communicate with PNC parliamentarians.
