Maldives Secures 230 Heavy Machinery Units to Boost Road Development

An agreement has been signed today to address the country’s shortage of heavy machinery, under a special initiative led by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
The landmark “Business Cooperation Agreement” was signed between China’s XCMG and Infrastructure Development Solution (IDS) to supply machinery for major projects managed by the Road Development Corporation (RDC).
Under the deal, 230 machines, including asphalt machinery for road construction, will be imported to accelerate the pace of development nationwide. The agreement also includes the establishment of a repair service center and a spare parts center in Sri Lanka, providing a long-term solution to maintenance and operational challenges.
The signing ceremony was attended by RDC Managing Director Ibrahim Nazeem, Mr. Tu Hui, General Manager, South Asia Region, XCMG, Mr. Zai Kun, General Manager, Global Business Division, XCMG, and Mohammed Nabih Afeef, Deputy Managing Director, RDC.
RDC and IDS described the agreement as a significant milestone under their ongoing Memorandum of Understanding, aimed at supporting the Maldives’ infrastructure development priorities and ensuring sustainable growth in road construction projects.
