The Health Ministry has launched an investigation into the death of six-year-old Ibrahim Azan Suhail, a child with spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy who allegedly went without a necessary feeding tube for eight months.
The boy’s family took to Facebook to voice their anguish, stating that the only way to nourish Ibrahim was via a feeding tube. According to the post, the family had been requesting the essential medical device from Aasandha for eight months, but it was not provided. By the time the tube finally arrived, the family said, the child’s condition had deteriorated to a critical point.
In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) on March 25, 2026, the Health Ministry confirmed that it is investigating the circumstances surrounding Ibrahim’s death in collaboration with relevant authorities.
The Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM) has also opened an inquiry into the case, adding to the growing pressure for answers regarding the delay in medical supply delivery.
The case has sparked public outcry, with many Maldivians demanding accountability availability of critical medical supplies.
