President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has officially designated 2027 as “Visit Maldives Year”, marking the launch of a major national campaign aimed at elevating the Maldives’ tourism sector to new heights.
Speaking during the 2026 Presidential Address at the opening of the People’s Majlis, President Muizzu described the initiative as a “monumental national endeavour” and emphasised that tourism, the country’s primary economic driver, must benefit all Maldivians.
To prepare for 2027, the Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC), under a specialised Steering Committee of the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, has already activated an aggressive global promotion strategy for 2026/2027.
The campaign has seen the Maldives participate in major international tourism forums, including FITUR 2026 in Madrid and the Travel & Adventure Show in New York, engaging thousands of industry professionals and showcasing investment and travel opportunities. Upcoming engagements include SATTE 2026 in New Delhi, ITB Berlin 2026, and MITT Moscow, targeting high-value and emerging markets.
The Middle Eastern luxury market will also be a focus, with the “Visit Maldives Week in Arabia” roadshow in Kuwait, Riyadh, and Jeddah from April 26–30, followed by a prominent presence at the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) in Dubai from May 4–7.
VMC recently concluded the first “Quarterly Insights: Maldives Tourism Insights Briefing”, fostering collaboration between policymakers and industry leaders to ensure alignment with the 2027 roadmap.
Through a mix of global trade fairs, regional roadshows, and digital campaigns, the Maldives aims to make 2026 a record-breaking year for tourism while laying the foundation for the landmark Visit Maldives Year 2027.
