Maintenance works on the Sinamalé Bridge are currently being carried out by China’s CCCC company, the original contractor responsible for the construction of the bridge.
The Sinamalé Bridge was opened for public use on August 30, 2018, during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen.
The total cost of the Sinamalé Bridge project was approximately USD 200 million. Of this amount, USD 116 million was provided as grant assistance from China, while USD 72 million was extended as a loan. The Maldivian Government contributed USD 12 million towards the project.
