The Government has assured that all relevant authorities are coordinating to resolve the ongoing water disruption in Fuvahmulah City.
Chief Spokesperson at the President’s Office, Heena Waleed, stated on X that, following recommendations from the Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) and the Health Protection Agency (HPA), the entire water pipeline will be disinfected and water tanks cleaned and flushed. Water services are expected to resume within six hours once quality standards are met.
Meanwhile, the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has begun providing drinking water and essential supplies to residents by sea and air. So far, 500 cases of 5-litre bottles, 1,300 cases of 1.5-litre bottles, and 1,000 cases of 500-millilitre bottles have been delivered by air. Of these, 1,200 cases have already been distributed, with more supplies en route.
Residents reported service interruptions starting around 1 p.m. yesterday. Fenaka Corporation explained that water services were suspended in households where cross-connections led to contamination of the main water network.
