President Dr Muizzu Calls for Swift Resolution of Pre-Trial Cases

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has urged the prompt resolution of cases awaiting court hearings, stressing that no individual should remain in prolonged pre-trial detention. He expressed full confidence in the judiciary to carry out its duties impartially and justly.

Making the remarks during the official Republic Day ceremony, the President highlighted that addressing prolonged pre-trial detention was a key electoral commitment. He noted that the Government has already taken measures to support this goal, including allocating resources to the judiciary and addressing space constraints within the court system.

President Muizzu affirmed that the Government is ready to support any necessary amendments to the legal framework to facilitate justice. He also reiterated the Administration’s commitment to good governance through strengthened checks and balances across the judicial and legislative systems.

Reflecting on 57 years of the republic, the President emphasised the importance of safeguarding citizens’ rights and reaffirmed the Government’s dedication to responsible, fair, and just policies, aiming to realise the pursuit of justice in its fullest form.
