President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed his Administration’s commitment to delivering on its housing pledge, announcing that the groundwork for its full implementation is already in progress.

Speaking at the official Republic Day ceremony, the President outlined ongoing efforts and upcoming initiatives aimed at providing adequate housing for all Maldivians.

Highlighting progress in land expansion, the President revealed that within five months, 15,000 residential plots will be allocated from reclaimed land at Rasmalé. He further announced plans to develop 3,000 housing units in the Greater Malé Region, in addition to 4,000 units being constructed under India’s line of credit. Detailed project information will be released soon.

President Muizzu noted that the housing schemes would prioritise individuals aged 18 and above who do not own homes, with a special focus on supporting families. He added that the identification of beneficiaries would coincide with the completion of reclamation works.

He also stated that land reclamation is progressing rapidly in the Greater Malé Region and will gain further momentum in December, with the deployment of additional dredgers expected to triple the current pace of work.
