In a historic milestone for the Maldives, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has become the first Head of State to visit every inhabited island in the nation — achieving this unprecedented feat within just one year and eleven months of his Administration.

The President completed his nationwide tour today with a visit to K. Thulusdhoo, the final stop of a two-day journey that also included all inhabited islands in Faadhippolhu and three islands in Malé Atoll. With this, President Dr Muizzu has visited all 187 inhabited islands and cities of the Maldives, including second visits to 63 of them.

A Landmark of Leadership and Direct Engagement

President Dr Muizzu’s completion of visits to every inhabited island in just 23 months reflects the Administration’s dedication to inclusive and rapid development. Throughout his travels, he personally met with Island Councils, Women’s Development Committees (WDCs), and local institutions to discuss the most pressing development needs and listen directly to residents.

Accompanied by Cabinet Ministers and heads of State-Owned Enterprises, the President ensured that real-time updates on ongoing and upcoming projects were shared with local communities. This approach significantly streamlined communication and eliminated the need for lengthy bureaucratic processes in Malé, resulting in faster project delivery and stronger decentralisation.

Transformative Progress Through Nationwide Outreach

As part of his visits, President Dr Muizzu launched and inaugurated numerous projects focused on housing, healthcare, education, and infrastructure. Several island-specific initiatives were also introduced to strengthen essential services, enhance social protection, and ensure community safety.

Among the key achievements, the Administration successfully expanded Bank of Maldives (BML) ATM services to all inhabited islands — with installations set for completion by the end of this month — and established resident police services across every island, closing the law enforcement gap that previously affected 66 communities.

Additionally, National ID and passport services have now been made available across every atoll, making government services more accessible to citizens throughout the country.

Building a Connected, Empowered Nation

During his travels, President Dr Muizzu visited schools, health centres, hospitals, mosques, sports facilities, and council secretariats, engaging directly with staff and the public to understand local challenges and identify solutions.

These island visits have not only accelerated development but also embodied the Administration’s decentralisation agenda — ensuring that every community, regardless of its size or distance, is included in the nation’s growth story.

President Dr Muizzu’s record-setting tour marks a new era in Maldivian governance — one defined by accessibility, accountability, and action — reaffirming his commitment to building a nation where every island is heard, represented, and developed.
