The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) has issued a Yellow Warning for severe weather conditions across the country, covering the area from Baa Atoll to Addu City until 3:15 a.m.
According to the MET Office, winds between 25 and 30 miles per hour are expected during the warning period, with gusts reaching up to 50 mph in storm clouds. Seas are expected to be very rough, posing risks for marine travel and coastal activities.
In an advisory issued on Sunday, the MET Office cautioned that strong winds and rough seas are likely to persist across the southern and central atolls from Monday until October 17. The bureau also forecasted thundershowers in most parts of the country throughout the period.
Authorities have urged seafarers and travelers to exercise extreme caution and to obtain the latest weather updates before setting out on any voyage. The National Meteorological Agency has also advised the public to remain vigilant, particularly during high tide hours, when the likelihood of swell waves and coastal flooding increases.
