Kulhudhuffushi City will host the Commonwealth Beach Handball Championship 2025 from 18 to 22 September at the International Beach Handball Court.
The tournament will feature six national teams — Maldives, Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and South Africa — making it one of the most significant beach handball events ever staged in the South Asian region.
President of Handball Maldives, Ahmed Mujthaba, described the championship as a milestone moment for the country. He praised the unity and effort of the Kulhudhuffushi community and institutions in bringing the international competition to life, noting that what was once a distant ambition has now become reality after years of developing the sport nationwide.
According to the fixtures released, the Maldives will open their campaign against Sri Lanka on 18 September.
Organisers expect the event to showcase the Maldives’ growing handball talent while strengthening regional and international sporting ties.
