Baa Atoll Council, in collaboration with Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC), has announced a historic attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest simultaneous snorkeling event. The event, named the Baani Event, will take place on 18 October 2025 at Villingilifaru Finolhu, a pristine sandbank in Baa Atoll.

The record-breaking attempt is expected to bring together around 1,000 participants. Located just 10 minutes from Eydhafushi, Villingilifaru Finolhu offers a stunning backdrop with its turquoise lagoon, coral-rich reefs, and thriving biodiversity. The island also serves as a nesting site for hundreds of Black-naped Terns, adding to the natural wonder of the location.

Organisers say the Baani Event is more than just a record attempt. It aims to celebrate the Maldives’ marine environment, promote responsible tourism, and strengthen environmental stewardship. By uniting participants in this shared experience, the initiative underscores the need to protect fragile ecosystems while recognising the communities and individuals who sustain the Maldives’ globally renowned tourism industry.

Registration for the Baani Event is now open, with both participants and spectators invited to be part of this unprecedented gathering. The event promises not only a bid for world record glory but also a spectacular display of community spirit, coordination, and environmental awareness.
