MACL Takes Over All RACL Operations

News
Ahmed Shurau

All operations of Regional Airports Company Limited (RACL) have been officially transferred to Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL).

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu had earlier announced plans to dissolve RACL and move its operations under MACL as part of broader efforts to reduce State expenditure.

MACL Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed confirmed that the company assumed full control of nine domestic airports previously managed by RACL about two weeks ago.

Shareef revealed that the condition of the airports at the time of takeover was poor, with critical firefighting equipment in some locations making continued operations impossible without urgent maintenance. He noted that Fuvahmulah Airport was temporarily closed after its fire truck broke down.

“No maintenance was done on anything there. We have now started a process of emergency purchase of equipment,” Shareef said.

He further stated that ground operations previously handled by Island Aviation, as well as staff matters of RACL, are now managed directly by MACL.

Work is still ongoing to formally dissolve RACL.
