President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the Government will introduce the National Engineers’ Award starting in 2026, to honor the significant contributions of engineers to the nation's development.

The announcement was made during his address at the inaugural National Engineers' Day, which was celebrated in the Maldives. The President also declared 30th August as "Maldives Engineers' Day," to be observed annually, coinciding with the inauguration of the Sinamalé Bridge, the country’s largest infrastructure project.

Reflecting on the Sinamalé Bridge's transformative impact on the social and economic life of the Maldivian people over the past seven years, the President emphasized the crucial role engineers play in realizing the Administration's vision of transforming the Maldives into a developed nation by 2040, advancing digitalization, and achieving renewable energy goals.

In his speech, President Dr. Muizzu reaffirmed the Government's commitment to expanding opportunities for academic research, education, and training in engineering, alongside the recognition provided through the National Engineers’ Award.

Concluding his remarks, the President highlighted the ingenuity of Maldivian ancestors and noted that today's engineers continue this legacy, driving the nation’s progress. He ended his address with a prayer for a prosperous future for the Maldives.
