Airline Operators Endorse VIA's New Terminal as a World-Class Facility

Airline operators have affirmed that the New Passenger Terminal at Velana International Airport (VIA) is set to deliver world-class service standards for passengers arriving in and departing from the Maldives. The endorsement follows a series of comprehensive operational trials ahead of the terminal’s grand opening on 26 July 2025.

The trials validated every stage of the passenger journey, including check-in, baggage handling, boarding, and arrivals. Multiple airlines operating at VIA participated as observers, evaluating the functionality and readiness of the new facility.

The successful trials have confirmed the terminal’s readiness to deliver:

  1. Seamless Check-in Experience through advanced processing systems and increased capacity
  2. Enhanced Passenger Flow via optimized layouts and reduced congestion
  3. World-Class Baggage Systems ensuring efficient, reliable handling
  4. Modern Boarding Processes, including aerobridge access for smooth embarkation
  5. Improved Arrival Experience with upgraded customs and baggage claim facilities

This strong endorsement from the airline community highlights the collaborative planning and execution between Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) and industry stakeholders to ensure the new terminal meets global operational standards.

MACL stated that final preparations are underway for the official opening on 26 July, which will mark a new era in Maldivian air travel, offering passengers a vastly improved and modern travel experience.
