Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has kickstarted a series of employee awareness sessions under its flagship ‘Green Airport’ initiative, reinforcing its commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainable airport operations.

The launch event, held in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, coincided with the International Day of Zero Waste. Themed “Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) and Hazardous Waste,” the first session aimed to boost understanding among MACL staff on the impacts of hazardous waste and sustainable waste management practices.

Experts from the Environment Ministry led the session, offering critical insights into environmental hazards and emphasizing the importance of corporate responsibility in waste handling. Participants also explored global standards and best practices in managing hazardous materials within the aviation sector.

The awareness sessions are just the beginning—MACL plans to roll out more activities in the coming weeks to promote sustainability and conservation as part of the broader ‘Green Airport’ movement.
