Speaker Meets Indian Vice President to Strengthen Parliamentary Cooperation

The Speaker of the People’s Majlis, Hon. Abdul Raheem Abdulla, met with the Vice President of India and Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, His Excellency Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, during his official visit to India.

The high-level meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing inter-parliamentary cooperation between the Maldives and India. Both leaders discussed future collaboration between their respective legislatures, reaffirming the strong diplomatic ties between the two nations.

Vice President Dhankhar welcomed the Maldivian delegation and members of the Maldives-India Parliamentary Friendship Group, highlighting India’s unwavering commitment to supporting the Maldives. He expressed his dedication to further deepening the relationship between the two countries.

In response, Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla expressed gratitude for India’s continued assistance and extended an official invitation for the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha to visit the Maldives.

As part of the official visit, the Maldivian delegation toured Humayun’s Tomb in New Delhi and is scheduled to visit the Taj Mahal in Agra before concluding their trip. The delegation is set to return to Malé on February 14, 2025.

This visit marks a significant step in enhancing parliamentary ties and fostering cooperation between the Maldives and India in legislative and diplomatic spheres.
