The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has announced plans to introduce a new guideline to regulate the use of fund boxes placed in mosques, ensuring greater transparency and accountability in the collection and utilization of charitable donations.
Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed stated that the number of organizations requesting permission to place fund boxes in mosques has been rising, necessitating a structured framework to oversee their use.
Under the proposed guideline, organizations will be required to disclose how the collected funds will be utilized before placing fund boxes in mosques. Additionally, they must submit a detailed report on how the donations were spent, along with an audit report, before they can renew their permit.
The guideline will be established in accordance with the Protection of the Religious Unity Among Maldivians Act, reinforcing the government's commitment to maintaining transparency in religious fundraising efforts.
Minister Shaheem emphasized the importance of ensuring accountability in the use of funds collected from mosque fund boxes, stating that the initiative aims to strengthen public trust and ensure donations are directed toward their intended purposes.
