President Muizzu and Wang Yi Pledge to Boost Maldives-China Projects

In a significant diplomatic engagement, His Excellency Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, paid a courtesy call on President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu this evening at the President's Office.
President Muizzu warmly welcomed Minister Wang Yi, expressing heartfelt gratitude for China's steadfast friendship and unwavering support towards the Maldives’ development. Reflecting on his state visit to China in January last year, the President lauded the deepened bilateral ties that emerged, propelling cooperation between the two nations to new heights.
During their discussions, the President stressed the urgency of expediting key infrastructure projects under existing agreements, particularly in social housing and road development—critical priorities for Maldivians. He also sought China's support in advancing economic diversification, focusing on agriculture and fisheries.
Minister Wang Yi reciprocated with praise for President Muizzu’s visionary leadership, affirming China’s dedication to supporting the Maldives’ sustainable development. He assured China’s commitment to fast-tracking infrastructure projects and commended the Maldives for its adherence to the One-China Principle, highlighting their partnership as a model for effective collaboration between nations, regardless of size.
The meeting concluded with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to the China-Maldives Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership, emphasizing shared progress and prosperity through multilateral cooperation.
