President Declares 2025 as the "Year of Homeownership" and Announces Major Housing Projects

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has proclaimed 2025 as the year with the most housing construction programmes to be implemented in a single year, emphasizing that it will be a significant year for homeownership across the Maldives.

During his visit to Gulhi Island on Sunday, the President addressed the residents and stated that his administration will focus on awarding contracts for housing development projects across the nation, excluding the Male’ region. He assured that this year will see the highest number of housing construction projects, a trend that will continue in the years ahead, particularly in islands where land has been reclaimed, providing more space for development.

The President highlighted the Rasmale’ project, located near Gulhi lagoon, as one of the largest housing developments under his administration. He assured the residents that the reclamation of Rasmale’ is proceeding according to plan and that the project will be expedited with the collaboration of various partners. Once completed, the Rasmale’ housing project will provide a comprehensive solution to housing shortages in the region and bring multiple benefits to the nation.

In his address, President Dr. Muizzu stressed that 2025 would focus on projects that not only enhance physical infrastructure but also improve the financial well-being of citizens. He acknowledged that while the previous year had been successful, challenges related to financial constraints from the inherited economy limited the administration’s progress. However, he affirmed that the economy had been consolidated and strengthened during that time.

Looking ahead, the President reiterated that the administration's priority in the first two months of 2025 would be to honor outstanding payments to government agencies, state-owned enterprises, and other institutions. He emphasized that his administration's core focus is on finding permanent solutions to the problems faced by the people, particularly in improving their well-being, while also pursuing comprehensive development that includes not just infrastructure but also ideological and spiritual growth.

Concluding his speech, the President called for unity and collaboration to ensure the betterment of society as a whole. He reiterated that the government's development efforts are designed to bring long-term benefits to the people, enhancing both their quality of life and the nation’s future prospects.
