The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), also known as Visit Maldives, has successfully hosted its inaugural ‘Tourism Symposium 2024’ today, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s tourism marketing efforts. The event brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders to discuss critical challenges and opportunities within the Maldives' tourism sector.

In his opening remarks, MMPRC’s CEO and Managing Director Ibrahim Shiuree expressed optimism for the future, stating, “I’m confident that by embracing new ideas and working together, we can build an even stronger and more diverse tourism sector. Let’s continue to innovate and create unforgettable experiences for every visitor that comes our way.”

Honourable Minister of Tourism Ibrahim Faisal emphasized the need for adaptability in the face of evolving industry trends. “To ensure the long-term sustainability of our tourism industry, we must adapt to evolving trends, address emerging challenges, and embrace innovative approaches,” he noted.

The Chairperson of MMPRC, Abdulla Giyas Riyaz, highlighted the potential for the Maldives to lead in global tourism excellence. “Together, we can build a masterpiece where the Maldives not only thrives but leads, inspiring travelers and setting benchmarks for excellence,” he stated.

The symposium featured a diverse range of discussions on sustainability, health and safety, and innovative solutions. A key panel discussion, moderated by MMPRC’s Deputy Managing Director Zihuny Rasheed, included high-level government delegates such as Minister of State for Tourism Munim Anees and Minister of State for Health Khadeeja Abdul Samad Abdulla. The panel provided valuable insights into developing a resilient and sustainable tourism sector, with an interactive Q&A session allowing audience engagement.

Participants had ample opportunities to network, exchange ideas, and collaborate on strategies for the future. MMPRC presented a tentative marketing plan for 2025, encouraging feedback from attendees on integrating diverse tourism aspects to create a comprehensive appeal for international travelers.

Hosted at the picturesque Crossroads Maldives in collaboration with Jalboot Marine Services, the event also showcased the Maldives as an ideal destination for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) tourism, merging business with leisure in an idyllic setting.

The symposium follows the successful conclusion of the Global DATA Forum 2024 held earlier this week at Bandos Maldives, underscoring Visit Maldives' commitment to fostering innovation and public-private collaboration within the tourism industry.

As the Maldives aims to achieve its national tourism targets, Visit Maldives is dedicated to organizing more initiatives like this symposium, paving the way for sustainable growth and global promotion in the tourism sector.
