President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has officially reassigned the Labour Relations Authority (LRA) to the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology, effective August 6, 2024.
This decision, made under Section 116 of the Constitution of the Republic of Maldives, follows recommendations from the President’s Cabinet aimed at addressing challenges related to undocumented expatriate workers.
Previously under the Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development, the LRA's new alignment with the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology is intended to streamline efforts and enhance oversight in managing labour-related issues. The Cabinet's recommendation highlights a strategic shift to better address and resolve concerns surrounding undocumented workers.
This reassignment reflects the administration's commitment to improving labor management and ensuring more effective handling of expatriate worker issues within the country.
