The “Welcome India” Roadshow series, a collaborative initiative by the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC/Visit Maldives), the Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO), and the National Hotel and Guesthouse Association of Maldives (NHGAM), concluded successfully on August 3, 2024. This three-city roadshow, which traveled through New Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore, was aimed at reinforcing the Maldives’ status as a premier holiday destination for Indian travelers.
The roadshow saw active participation from 24 industry partners from the Maldives, along with notable figures including Mr. Ibrahim Faisal, Minister of Tourism, and Mr. Mohamed Khaleel, Advisor to the President on Tourism Development. The event provided a crucial platform for engaging with key travel trade stakeholders and media in India.
India, a cornerstone market for Maldives tourism, was at the center of focus during the roadshow. MMPRC, MATATO, and NHGAM showcased the Maldives' unique offerings, including its pristine beaches, luxurious resorts, guesthouses, rich cultural heritage, and vibrant marine life. The roadshow featured B2B networking opportunities, interactive dialogues, and an exciting raffle giveaway at each city stop. Winners of the raffle received holiday prizes sponsored by prominent Maldivian properties such as Kandima Maldives, Nova Maldives, Arena Hotels, Kaani Hotels, Villa Nautica, Sirru Fen Fushi, Holiday Inn Kandooma, and Alila Kothaifaru Maldives.
The enthusiastic response from the Indian travel industry underscores the Maldives’ strong appeal as a preferred holiday destination. The roadshow catalyzed new partnerships and strengthened existing ties between the Maldivian and Indian travel trade sectors, promoting the Maldives’ distinctive offerings and enhancing its visibility in the Indian market.
Building on the success of the roadshow, MMPRC is set to continue its strategic initiatives aimed at increasing arrivals from the Indian market and reinstating it among the top three source markets for Maldives tourism. Upcoming events, including the Globalspa campaign, joint marketing partnerships with Cleartrip and Pickyourtrail, and familiarisation trips, are planned for the remainder of the year. These initiatives will further solidify the Maldives’ position as a top-of-mind destination for Indian travelers.
