The Sports Nation Basketball Championship 2026 – U21 Men's got underway on Friday evening in Malé City with Nets producing an impressive performance to defeat Lancers by 73-46 in the opening match of the tournament.

Nets controlled the game from the early stages and maintained their advantage throughout the contest, eventually securing a convincing 27-point victory to begin their championship campaign on a high note.

The tournament features four teams, including three from the Maldives — Maldives U21 National Team, Nets and Lancers — along with Sri Lankan club JOES.

Organized to provide valuable competitive experience for young basketball players, the championship is being played in a league format, where all teams will face each other during the preliminary round. The top two teams in the standings will qualify for the championship final, while the third and fourth-placed teams will compete for the bronze medal.

With an important opening victory already secured, Nets have taken an early step toward a place in the final. However, strong competition is expected from the Maldives U21 National Team, Lancers and visiting Sri Lankan side JOES as the tournament progresses.

The championship is expected to showcase some of the region's promising young basketball talent while providing fans with exciting competition over the coming days.

The tournament's main sponsor is Milo, while the event is supported by the Maldives Basketball Association and the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Fitness.

Additional support has been provided through co-sponsors Commercial Bank of Maldives, Sollarele, Ace Travels, and Health & Glow.

As the competition continues, basketball enthusiasts will be eagerly watching to see which two teams earn the right to contest the inaugural Sports Nation U21 Basketball Championship final.
