The Maldives Under-20 Men's Handball Team has secured a place in the semi-finals of the IHF Trophy Zone II Men's Youth (U20) Championship after finishing second in Group B.

In their final group-stage match, the Maldives suffered a 39-17 defeat to Bangladesh, who confirmed their position as Group B champions with the victory. Despite the setback, the Maldivian side successfully advanced to the knockout stage thanks to their opening-match victory over Afghanistan.

The Maldives began their campaign in impressive fashion, defeating Afghanistan 33-31 in a thrilling encounter. That important victory proved crucial in securing second place in the group and a place among the tournament's final four teams.

Bangladesh topped Group B with a perfect record and will face Yemen in the second semi-final.

Meanwhile, the Maldives now turn their attention to a tough challenge against India, the winners of Group A, in the first semi-final scheduled for tomorrow.

Although the result against Bangladesh was disappointing, the Maldivian players showed commitment and determination throughout the group stage. Reaching the semi-finals represents another positive step forward for the national youth handball programme and provides the team with an opportunity to compete for a place in the championship final.

The semi-final clash against India will be one of the biggest tests of the tournament for the young Maldivian side. However, after already proving their ability with a victory over Afghanistan, the team will be aiming to produce another strong performance and continue their journey in the competition.

With a place in the final at stake, Maldivian handball fans will be eagerly awaiting tomorrow's showdown as the nation's U20 team looks to create another memorable moment on the regional stage.
