New Police Station Opened in B. Maalhos

News
Ahmed Shurau

Continuing the nationwide initiative to transition local law enforcement operations into state-owned, purpose-built infrastructure, a brand new police station has been officially inaugurated today in B. Maalhos.

The opening ceremony was chief-guested and led by the Minister of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology, Ali Ihusan, alongside the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Mohamed. Key dignitaries in attendance included Deputy Commissioner of Police Farhad Fikury, Maalhos Council President Mohamed Thariq Abdul Razzاق, senior executive police officers, local council members, and island residents.

During the formal proceedings, Minister Ihusan hoisted the national flag, while Commissioner Ahmed Mohamed raised the official Maldives Police Service flag.

To acknowledge the crucial institutional backing required to complete the facility, Minister Ihusan presented certificates of appreciation to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) and the Maalhos Island Council. Following the conclusion of the protocol speeches, officials and locals joined hands for a commemorative tree-planting activity within the new compound.

Project Timeline and Facilities

The construction of the modern policing hub was executed by MTCC, following the project's foundation-laying ceremony on August 14, 2025. The newly built complex features:

  1. A dedicated administrative and operations wing
  2. A fully equipped accommodation block for on-duty personnel

While policing services were initially established on the island using temporary quarters on January 27, 2024, this newly opened station gives the Maldives Police Service a permanent, independent base to safely expand their community outreach and emergency response protocols across the Baa Atoll region.
