In a significant move to modernize urban transit in the capital, the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has officially launched the "Malé Taxi Line" (MTL) mobile application on the Apple App Store for iOS users today.
The public transportation application allows commuters to seamlessly book the government's newly rolled out fleet of safe, secure, and eco-friendly Electric Vehicle (EV) taxis across the Greater Malé region. iPhone users can download the application immediately by scanning official QR codes or visiting direct download links.
While the dedicated Android version is expected to land on the Google Play Store shortly, MTL has set up alternative booking channels to ensure Android users are not left stranded. Until the app drops, Android users can book rides directly via the MTL web application or by calling the transit hotline at 1655.
The digital expansion follows the government's landmark launch of the state-backed electric taxi service this past April. By coupling sub-zero emission electric cars with a streamlined digital dispatch framework, MTCC aims to alleviate chronic traffic bottlenecks while actively reducing the carbon footprint of public transport across Malé, Hulhumalé, and Villingili.
