Following the completion of the sacred Hajj rituals in Saudi Arabia, the Maldives Hajj Mission has officially released the return itinerary, dates, and arrival times for Maldivian pilgrims heading back home.
According to the Hajj Mission, the pilgrims will return in four separate flight cohorts. The airlift will be operated through a partnership between Saudia (Saudi Arabian Airlines) and the national airline, Maldivian, with each carrier operating two flights.
While the core pillars of the Hajj pilgrimage are now complete, the pilgrims are scheduled to travel to the holy city of Medina before departing for the Maldives. Although visiting Medina is not an obligatory ritual of Hajj, it is a deeply rooted tradition that allows pilgrims to pay respects at the Prophet’s Mosque and visit key Islamic historical sites. The Hajj Mission confirmed that Maldivian pilgrims will begin transferring to Medina starting today, and their return flights to Velana International Airport (VIA) will depart directly from Medina.
Official Arrival Schedule (Maldives Time):
- Flight 1 (Saudia): Arrives on Friday, June 5, 2026, at 14:00 (2:00 PM).
- Flight 2 (Maldivian): Arrives on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at 17:40 (5:40 PM).
- Flight 3 (Saudia): Arrives on Monday, June 8, 2026, at 14:00 (2:00 PM).
- Flight 4 (Maldivian): Arrives on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at approximately 00:00 (Midnight).
The Maldives Hajj Mission stated that the touchdown of the fourth and final flight on Tuesday night will mark the safe return of the entire Maldivian pilgrim contingent for the year. Airport authorities and relevant ministries are currently preparing logistical arrangements at VIA to ensure a smooth and seamless reception for the arriving pilgrims and their welcoming families.
