MALE, May 6, 2026 – The Government of the Maldives has issued a strong condemnation of the recent drone and missile attacks targeting civilian infrastructure and vital sites in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

In an official statement released today, the Maldivian government characterized the attacks as a "blatant violation" of the UAE's sovereignty and a grave threat to the security and stability of the entire region.

Key Highlights of the Statement:
Solidarity with UAE: The Maldives reaffirmed its full support for the government and people of the UAE.

Defense of Sovereignty: The government expressed backing for all measures taken by the UAE to protect its territorial integrity and national security.

Call for De-escalation: Underscoring the danger of further conflict, the Maldives urged all parties to prioritize dialogue and diplomatic efforts to restore stability.

The statement follows reports from earlier this week in which the UAE Ministry of Defense confirmed that its air defense systems intercepted approximately 15 missiles and four drones launched from Iran. The attacks, which reportedly occurred on Monday, May 4, targeted strategically significant areas including the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone. While most threats were neutralized, falling debris resulted in moderate injuries and minor property damage.

These incidents represent a significant escalation in regional tensions, breaking a fragile ceasefire that had been in place since early April.

The Maldives and the UAE maintain close bilateral relations. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has previously engaged in high-level discussions with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan regarding regional security, emphasizing the Maldives' interest in a peaceful and stable Middle East to ensure global economic security.
