Man Arrested for Attempting to Smuggle Contraband into Maafushi Prison

Authorities have apprehended a 28-year-old man accused of attempting to smuggle a significant haul of prohibited items into Maafushi Prison.
The suspect, identified as Mohamed Shaheer of Maas in R. Maduvvari, was intercepted near the prison gate on May 2.
Following his arrest, a search of the suspect led to the discovery of an extensive collection of contraband. Police recovered 17 smartphones, 35 charging cables, 29 suspected drug joints, and various other accessories including an adapter, four scales, and a flash drive.
The suspect was brought before the court to determine his detention status, where a judge ordered him to be remanded in custody for 15 days.
The Maldives Police Service is continuing its investigation into the incident as part of ongoing efforts to curb the flow of illegal items into correctional facilities.
