Maldives Engages UK on Climate Change Support and Collaboration

The Maldives has held discussions with the United Kingdom to seek technical and financial assistance in addressing the impacts of climate change.
The meeting was attended by British High Commissioner to Maldives Nick Lowe and representatives from the British High Commission, alongside Amjad Abdullah, Director General of the Climate Change Department at the Ministry of Tourism and Environment.
Discussions focused on the urgent threats posed by climate change, including increased rainfall, flooding, sea level rise, and long-term environmental damage such as coral bleaching. The two sides explored ways the UK could provide support to mitigate and adapt to these challenges, including contributions from international climate funds.
Both parties emphasised the importance of national and international cooperation in tackling climate change. The Maldives highlighted its priorities and encouraged the UK to continue its global leadership in climate action, while exploring further opportunities for bilateral collaboration.
