Bandos Maldives Earns Prestigious Green Globe Certification for Sustainability

News
Ahmed Shurau

Bandos Maldives has been awarded the Green Globe Certification, one of the world’s most respected sustainability recognitions in travel and tourism, reaffirming its long-standing commitment to environmental stewardship.

Known as the “Island of Hospitality,” Bandos now extends its reputation to safeguarding the natural beauty and biodiversity of the Maldives for future generations.

The certification reflects the resort’s eco-friendly initiatives, including investment in four advanced desalination plants, eliminating over 250,000 single-use plastic bottles annually through refillable glass alternatives, and introducing energy-efficient LED lighting and power management systems across the property. Bandos has also eliminated plastic straws, replacing them with biodegradable paper straws and reusable stirrers.

Sustainability is embedded in daily operations—from villas to restaurants—and extends to Green IT initiatives, recycling, and paper reduction. Guests are also encouraged to participate by opting for refillable water, joining awareness programs, and learning about behind-the-scenes efforts.

Bandos Maldives’ achievement underscores its dedication to balancing world-class hospitality with a genuine commitment to protecting the environment.
