Credit Card Dollar Limits to Increase from February 2026

Ahmed Shurau
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that foreign transaction limits on Bank of Maldives (BML) credit cards will be increased starting 1 February 2026.
According to his announcement on X, the new limits will be: Classic cards from USD 750 to USD 1,400, Gold cards from USD 750 to USD 1,500, and Platinum cards from USD 1,500 to USD 2,000.
The decision follows the recent move to raise debit card overseas spending limits. From 11 November this year, debit card POS limits abroad will rise to USD 1,000, while limits for airline tickets and hotel payments will increase to USD 3,000. Travellers seeking overseas medical treatment will also be able to pay medical expenses directly using debit cards upon request.
These changes are part of the Government’s efforts to improve dollar access for citizens and businesses, underpinned by the Foreign Currency Act which came into effect on 1 January 2025.
