President Vows Judiciary Freedom

News
Ahmed Shurau

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has pledged reforms to strengthen the independence of the judiciary, noting that the current system hampers its ability to function without external influence.

In the latest edition of the Rayyithunnaa Eku podcast, the President announced that amendments to next year’s budget would earmark block grants specifically for the judiciary. A substantial portion of these funds, he said, will be allocated to ensure the judiciary’s independent operations.

The President also touched on wider reform plans, including revising the remuneration framework for former Presidents and Members of Parliament, which he said is currently misaligned with the nation’s economic realities.

Further changes will focus on boosting the budgets of Women’s Development Committees, adjusting the block grant formula for Councils, and revising operations at the State Trading Organization (STO) to guarantee the continuous supply of essential goods.

President Muizzu said these reforms reflect his administration’s commitment to transparency, fairness, and a stronger democratic system.
