Bank of Maldives (BML) has been selected to host the 42nd Asian Bankers Association (ABA) General Meeting and Conference in the Maldives in 2026. The prestigious gathering will bring together banking and financial leaders from across the region to discuss key industry issues, opportunities, and the future of financial services.
The announcement was made during the 41st ABA General Meeting and Conference, held from September 15–16, 2025, in Bhutan, where BML CEO and Managing Director Mohamed Shareef was appointed as Vice Chairman of the ABA.
“We are honored to be chosen as the host for the 42nd ABA General Meeting and Conference,” said Shareef. “This is a significant opportunity for the Maldives to showcase its thriving financial sector and its commitment to regional collaboration. We look forward to welcoming our peers from the Asian banking community and providing a platform for valuable dialogue on the future of our industry.”
This will mark the second time BML hosts the ABA conference, following a successful event in 2018. Hosting the conference again underscores BML’s growing influence and leadership within the Asian banking landscape.
The 2026 conference will see participation from ABA member countries, including CEOs, senior executives, and industry experts. The event will feature discussions, workshops, and networking sessions on critical topics shaping the banking and financial services sector.
