Sheraton Maldives and HDC Conduct Community Clean Drive in Hulhumalé

News

Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa, in collaboration with the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), organized a community clean drive in Hulhumalé on 8 September 2025.

The initiative, which began at 6:45 am, brought together more than 20 associates from the resort who volunteered their time to collect litter around the Hulhumalé Ferry Terminal Lakudi Jetty and Central Park. The team successfully removed 1.5 tons of garbage, helping to revitalize one of the capital’s busiest public areas.

The clean drive is part of Sheraton Maldives’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program and reflects its Green Globe Certification (2024–2025), a globally recognized benchmark for sustainable tourism.

For HDC, the initiative aligns with its mission to promote sustainable urban development in Hulhumalé and reinforces the importance of public-private partnerships in protecting both natural and urban environments in the Maldives.

Greg Allan, General Manager of Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa, said:

The resort’s broader environmental strategy includes waste reduction programs, energy-efficient solutions, coral conservation projects, and renewable practices. Guests are also encouraged to take part in ongoing eco-friendly initiatives such as coral restoration, on-site water bottling, and farm-to-table dining experiences, designed to preserve the Maldives’ natural beauty for future generations.
