President Concludes State Visit to China, Further Strengthening Bilateral Ties and Multilateral Partnerships

His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has returned to Malé following the successful completion of his official visit to the People’s Republic of China, undertaken at the invitation of His Excellency President Xi Jinping.

During the visit, President Dr Muizzu participated in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit 2025, where he joined fellow Heads of State and Government for high-level deliberations at the “SCO Plus” meeting.

The President also held a productive bilateral meeting with President Xi Jinping, during which both leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to deepening the Maldives–China partnership and advancing cooperation across areas of mutual interest.

On the margins of the summit, President Dr Muizzu conducted a series of bilateral meetings with other world leaders to strengthen diplomatic relations and explore avenues for enhanced collaboration.

A number of key agreements and Memoranda of Understanding were signed between the Maldives and China during the visit, focusing on priority sectors aimed at supporting the Maldives’ national development agenda.

President Dr Muizzu also attended the Commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of the Victory of the Chinese People in the Second World War, held at Tiananmen Square in Beijing, alongside several world leaders. The ceremony was followed by a reception hosted by President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People.

This visit marks President Dr Muizzu’s second official trip to China since assuming office in November 2023, underscoring the longstanding and friendly ties between the Maldives and the People’s Republic of China.
