President Muizzu Revises Special Commission Investigating 18 April Incident in Malé

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced changes to the "Special Presidential Commission of Inquiry into the Incident that Occurred in Malé on 18 April 2025," strengthening efforts to ensure an independent and credible investigation.

The Commission, originally established on 27 April 2025, is tasked with establishing the facts surrounding the incident where a young person was found collapsed on a building rooftop in Malé. It is also responsible for reviewing the actions of relevant institutions, recommending necessary measures, and ensuring a fair and impartial investigation.

The newly appointed members of the Commission are:

  • Dr Mohamed Munavvar, G. Hassankaarige (appointed as Chairperson)
  • Brigadier General (Retired) Ahmed Mohamed, V. Almaan
  • Dr Moosa Murad, Malé Registry Number 641
  • Jabeen Mohamed, Moonimaage, Th. Veymandoo
  • Aminath Eenaas, H. Habaruge

The changes were made official through a Presidential Decree, now published in the Government Gazette and in immediate effect.

The administration has reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and justice through this strengthened Commission.
