Judge Mohamed Faisal Appointed Chief Judge of the High Court

Judge Mohamed Faisal of the High Court has been officially appointed as the Chief Judge of the High Court following a decision made at a meeting of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) held tonight.
Judge Faisal, who holds a first-degree qualification in Sharia and Law from the Maldives College of Islamic Studies, has been working in the legal field since 2012. He previously worked as a lawyer at SMNS Equity Chamber before transitioning into judicial roles. Faisal was appointed as a member of the JSC on May 22, 2014, and later served as Vice President of the Commission from July 13, 2014.
He was appointed as a Judge of the High Court on July 24, 2018, before stepping into the role of Chief Judge following the vacancy left by Hussain Shaheed, who was appointed as a Justice of the Supreme Court on March 19, 2025. Since then, Faisal has been temporarily managing the operations of the High Court.
