His Excellency President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu attended the Liverpool FC vs Everton Merseyside Derby on Wednesday evening, marking the official launch of the Maldives tourism promotion campaign in partnership with Liverpool Football Club (LFC). This initiative is part of a co-branded collaboration between LFC and the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC)/Visit Maldives.
The strategic partnership between Visit Maldives and Liverpool FC extends beyond brand visibility, with the goal of increasing visitor arrivals, strengthening the Maldives' global presence, and generating substantial economic benefits. On March 13, MMPRC/Visit Maldives announced its role as the "Official Tourist Destination Partner" of Liverpool FC, launching a three-and-a-half-year global campaign designed to promote the Maldives as a top travel destination.
As part of the campaign, Visit Maldives recently launched an extensive outdoor advertising initiative in the United Kingdom on March 27, aiming to attract potential travelers through a mix of high-impact outdoor and digital promotions. The three-month campaign includes over 100 fully branded taxis in London, advertisements on buses, the London Underground, major airports, and business-class lounges. Additionally, LED signage at Liverpool FC’s Premier League home matches, branding across Anfield stadium, visibility in the club’s official booklets, and billboards across Europe targeting high-value travelers are expected to generate unparalleled global exposure.
President Dr. Muizzu was accompanied at the event by His Excellency Thoriq Ibrahim, Minister of Tourism and Environment; His Excellency Abdulla Rafiu, Minister of Sports, Fitness, and Recreation; Ibrahim Shiuree, Managing Director of the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation; and other senior government officials. This landmark partnership is expected to significantly boost the Maldives’ tourism sector by leveraging Liverpool FC’s massive global reach to attract a broader audience and increase visitor numbers.
