Israel Intercepts Missile from Yemen as U.S. Intensifies Strikes on Houthi Targets

The Israeli military has intercepted a missile launched from Yemen, as the United States continues its military operations against Houthi-controlled sites in the country.

According to the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), air raid sirens were activated across multiple regions of Israel on Sunday after detecting a missile fired from Yemen. The IDF confirmed that the projectile was intercepted before entering Israeli airspace, preventing potential damage.

The Iran-backed Houthi rebels have been launching missiles and drones at Israel since the war in Gaza escalated on October 7, 2023. In addition to targeting Israeli cities, the Houthis have also attacked shipping vessels in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, claiming their actions are in solidarity with Palestinians.

The latest attack comes just days after Israel intercepted two missiles from Yemen, including what the Houthis claim was a hypersonic projectile aimed at Ben Gurion Airport and a military installation in Tel Aviv. The rebel group has yet to comment on Israel’s latest interception.

Meanwhile, the U.S. has ramped up its military operations in Yemen, striking Houthi positions in response to their continued aggression in the region. Western allies, including the United Kingdom and France, have also condemned the attacks on Red Sea shipping lanes, warning that they pose a serious threat to global trade.

The situation in the region remains volatile, especially as Israel continues its military operations in Gaza following the collapse of a temporary truce on March 18. With increasing tensions and Iran’s backing of the Houthis, concerns are growing over the possibility of a broader conflict in the Middle East.
