News

The government has appointed a Director General at the Thalassemia Centre for the first time in eight years, the Health Ministry announced today.

Ahmed Mausoom, an experienced management professional, has been appointed to the position. Mausoom previously worked at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital and most recently served as the Director General of the Local Government Authority.

The Health Ministry also revealed that an Assistant Director General and a Director will soon be appointed to strengthen the administration of the Thalassemia Centre. Additionally, a recruitment announcement has been made today for five nurses needed at the centre, and the ministry confirmed that a physician will also be assigned. More administrative staff will be appointed in the coming days.

These changes follow a recent protest by thalassemia patients and their families, who raised concerns about the centre's management and services. In response, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu visited the Thalassemia Centre this week and assured patients and staff that their concerns would be addressed, leading to immediate reforms.
