News

The Prosecutor General’s Office has officially acknowledged the receipt of a case filed by journalist and CEO of Adhadhu News, Mr. Hussain Fiyaz Moosa, against President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. The complaint alleged that the President issued threats against the journalist during a phone call on March 14, 2025, at approximately 19:04 PM.

Following the submission of the case by the Maldives Police Service on March 23, 2025, the Prosecutor General’s Office conducted a thorough review of the investigation. After careful consideration of the legal framework and available evidence, the Prosecutor General has determined that there are no grounds to pursue criminal charges against the President.

According to the legal assessments made by the Prosecutor General’s Office, the complaint alleged that the President threatened the journalist by stating that strict action would be taken against him to the fullest extent of the law. However, this statement did not meet the legal threshold required under Section 120 of Law No. 9/2014 (Maldives Penal Code) nor satisfy the necessary legal criteria stipulated under Section 2 of Law No. 17/2020 (Prevention of Dangerous Weapons Act).

Based on these findings, the Prosecutor General has formally decided to decline the case, and no further action will be taken in this matter.
