News

The government has begun working to resolve concerns raised by thalassemia patients and their families regarding services at the Thalassemia Centre, following a protest held last night near Maldives Blood Services (MBS).

The President’s Office announced the decision after President Dr Mohamed Muizzu personally visited the centre today to listen to grievances firsthand.

A senior official from the President’s Office confirmed that the concerns are now being addressed in consultation with relevant agencies. Immediate issues that can be resolved will be dealt with as soon as possible.

During his visit, President Dr Muizzu inspected the centre’s facilities and spoke with families who were there for blood transfusions. He assured them that their concerns would be addressed without delay and acknowledged that past measures to resolve the centre’s problems had been inadequate. The President pledged to find lasting solutions.

Accompanying the President were Health Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim and Finance Minister Moosa Zameer.

Among the key concerns raised by protesters were faulty filters that result in blood wastage, with some transfusion packets becoming damaged in the process.
