Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, has disclosed that more companies have been identified for violating policies regarding the organization of Umrah pilgrimages to Saudi Arabia.
The Minister stated that some companies failed to adhere to the regulations outlined in the rules gazetted on October 9, 2024, for Umrah group arrangements. He assured the public that action would be taken next week against these companies, based on the severity of their violations and unmet responsibilities.
This announcement follows a recent case involving Al-Hijra Travel and Tours Private Limited, a company penalized for negligence during the December Umrah season. The company failed to provide adequate care for pilgrims under its management, leaving 24 individuals stranded in Mecca. Allegations suggest that funds intended for return tickets were misused, resulting in the current predicament.
The government has stepped in to ensure the safety and safe return of the stranded pilgrims. Dr. Shaheem reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of its citizens, emphasizing that every effort would be made to assist those affected by the company’s negligence.
The Islamic Ministry has reiterated its stance on holding companies accountable for such breaches, ensuring that organizers meet their obligations and that pilgrims receive the care and support they deserve.
