A 55-year-old Argentinian tourist has tragically passed away after being struck by a speedboat while swimming near the Radisson Blu Resort in Alifu Dhaalu Atoll.
The incident occurred at approximately 10:00 a.m. and involved a speedboat belonging to Icom Green, according to the Maldives Police Service.
Disturbing videos circulating on social media depict the severe injuries sustained by the victim, with parts of his arm and face severed due to the collision.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, which has sparked renewed concerns over maritime safety in the region.
This marks yet another fatal accident in Alifu Dhaalu Atoll, following a similar tragedy last year when a foreigner lost their life after being struck by a speedboat while swimming near an island in the atoll.
Efforts to ensure the safety of tourists and regulate maritime activities are under scrutiny as the Maldives continues to address these incidents.
