STELCO Launches Research Foundation

State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has officially launched the STELCO Research Foundation (SRF), marking a significant step towards promoting STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education and innovation in the Maldives. The unveiling ceremony on December 18, 2024, showcased the Foundation's primary goal of nurturing the next generation of innovators and advancing research initiatives that contribute to the nation's development.

At the inauguration, STELCO’s Managing Director, Hussain Fahmy, emphasized the company's strong and diverse workforce, underscoring that the SRF will leverage STELCO’s resources to support nation-building and foster technological advancements. Fahmy highlighted that the Foundation is a testament to STELCO’s commitment to enhancing education and research, particularly in the fields of science and technology.

One of the key initiatives introduced at the event was the Unmanned Submersible Vehicle (USV), a cutting-edge underwater drone designed to explore and monitor inaccessible underwater regions. The USV is set to revolutionize ocean data collection, enabling more comprehensive research on the Maldives' unique marine ecosystem. The drone’s capabilities will also play a critical role in supporting environmental protection efforts, particularly in preserving the country’s delicate marine life and coral reefs.

In addition to the technological advancements, Managing Director Fahmy shared on X that STELCO is actively seeking young talent, educated professionals, and innovators with fresh ideas and a passion for progress. These individuals are invited to collaborate with STELCO on future research initiatives aimed at advancing the nation’s technological landscape and fostering sustainable development.

The launch of the STELCO Research Foundation and its innovative projects, such as the USV, mark a new chapter in the Maldives’ journey towards technological and environmental sustainability, providing opportunities for both the company and the nation’s future leaders to make a lasting impact.
